What is PassivEnergy?

PassivEnergy™ is a new product designed to save you money by reducing wasted energy in your home. With sensors and controls around your house, and connected to our online service, PassivEnergy™ helps you understand and manage your heating, hot water, and electrical appliances better.

PassivEnergy™ is built around you and your family. Tell it how you live your life, and it’ll manage when you need to use energy, and when you can save it.

Comfort

PassivEnergy™ controls your central heating and hot water, and keeps you comfortable by heating your home without sudden changes in temperature. It can warm up your home more efficiently in the morning before you get up. And if you go away on holiday, it can make sure there’s heat and hot water on your return.

Carbon

PassivEnergy™ reduces wasted energy by carefully managing your heating and hot water, and by controlling your electrical appliances. Reduce wasted energy and you reduce your carbon footprint. It’s as simple as that.

Cost

How it works

At the heart of PassivEnergy™ is the PassivHub. This small white box is also the brains of the system, talking wirelessly to sensors and controls installed around your home, and via the internet to our PassivEnergy™ service.

Your window on the system is the PassivController – a touchscreen that gives you access from anywhere in the house. We know that new technology can often feel difficult to use. We have worked hard to keep it simple.

Soon you’ll also be able to access PassivEnergy™ via the web. PassivHub works with you to monitor, understand, and optimise your energy consumption. We’ll also update your system remotely, even after installation, so you are always using the latest features.

In the home

Adaptive Occupancy Control

Your energy needs vary if you’re in, out, asleep, or on holiday. Tell PassivEnergy™ how you live, and over time it’ll learn when you use energy, and when you need to save it. You don’t need to programme your boiler (or anything else) with fiddly on/off times; PassivEnergy’s Adaptive Occupancy Control takes care of it.

Advanced Heating and Hot Water Control

PassivEnergy™ does all the things you’d expect a modern heating controller to do. Optimum start turns on your heating only when you need it, and learns when to turn it up and down. Temperature smoothing carefully manages temperatures so your house doesn’t get too warm or too cold, while weather compensation allows it to adjust itself based on outside temperature. PassivEnergy™ also understands hot water, heating only enough for your actual needs – reducing standing losses.

Appliance Control

PassivEnergy™ understands when you don’t need appliances like TV’s or PC’s – even on standby. In the future, PassivEnergy™ could also control your washing machine, dishwasher, and other white goods, using load shifting to operate them at the most cost-efficient times of the day.

Energy Monitoriing

We’re adding advanced monitoring features into PassivEnergy™, so you’ll be able to see how you’re using energy and understand what to do to reduce it.

Looking Ahead

We’re working with energy companies and manufacturers to make PassivEnergy™ even better at managing energy and reducing bills.

If you want it to, PassivEnergy™ could soon let others help you manage your home: your electricity or gas supplier will be able to monitor how you use energy and offer you the best tariff (dynamic demand).

If you have a maintenance contract, your maintenance company might be able to diagnose faults remotely, and even fix them before you’re aware there’s a problem. And if you’re responsible for others who live elsewhere (elderly relatives, perhaps), you could use PassivEnergy™ to make sure they’re always warm.

We’ll be introducing other PassivLiving™ products soon. PassivCare™ offers assisted living to those in need of care, letting everyone live in their own home for longer.

PassivProtect™ provides home security using the same technology. Each system will be able to work with the others, giving everyone the features they need. And one day, if you generate your own electricity, PassivEnergy™ will help you sell it back to the energy company, saving even more money.
